These Cottage Cheese Chocolate Chip Cookies are soft, thick, and almost cake-like in the center, with lightly golden edges and little pockets of melted chocolate.

The cottage cheese blends completely smooth with the egg and maple syrup, so the finished cookies do not have a curdy texture. Almond flour gives them a tender, slightly nutty crumb and keeps the dough simple to mix and scoop.

These are not meant to imitate a classic chewy bakery chocolate chip cookie. They are softer and more tender, which is exactly what makes this version different.

If you’re craving the traditional version, start with my Chocolate Chip Cookies. For something nuttier, these Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies are another easy bake.

And since almond flour is already open on the counter, my Italian Almond Cake is worth saving for later. These cookies are also very good with a mug of Homemade Hot Chocolate.

Are Cottage Cheese Chocolate Chip Cookies Gluten-Free?

The recipe is made without wheat flour.

For someone who needs a strict gluten-free diet, check that the almond flour, baking powder, chocolate chips, vanilla, and other packaged ingredients meet the necessary gluten-free requirements and avoid cross-contact.

The FDA requires foods carrying a gluten-free claim to meet defined criteria, including less than 20 ppm gluten. FDA – Gluten and Food Labeling.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using very watery cottage cheese, which can make the cookie dough too loose. Drain it briefly if needed.
  • Not blending the cottage cheese mixture until smooth, which can leave noticeable curds in the cookies.
  • Measuring the almond flour inaccurately, which can make the dough too dry or too soft.
  • Overmixing after adding the almond flour, which can make the cookies heavier.
  • Adding too many chocolate chips, which can make the dough harder to portion evenly.
  • Overbaking the cookies. Remove them when the tops are set and the edges are lightly golden.
  • Moving the cookies too soon. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes so they can firm up before transferring them to a rack.

What To Serve With Cheese Chocolate Chip Cookies

These Cottage Cheese Chocolate Chip Cookies are especially good with cold milk, coffee, or hot chocolate. You can also serve them with fresh strawberries or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an easy dessert.

FAQs

How do I know when they’re done ?

The tops should look set and the edges lightly golden. They’ll firm up more as they cool.

Can I make the dough ahead of time ?

You can mix it and keep it covered in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Scoop and bake when ready.

Why did my cookies spread too much ?

Cottage cheese can vary. If it’s watery, drain it, and make sure you measured almond flour correctly.

Can I use ricotta instead of cottage cheese ?

Yes. Ricotta is smoother and can make the dough slightly softer, but it works well.

Do these cookies taste like cottage cheese ?

Not strongly—the cottage cheese blends smooth and the flavor comes across as mild and creamy, not “cheesy.”
