These Dark Chocolate Truffles have a smooth, creamy ganache center made with dark chocolate, heavy cream, and butter, then rolled in cocoa powder or coconut. They’re rich, no-bake, easy to make ahead, and look like a much fancier dessert than the amount of work involved

The Little Chocolate Dessert That Looks Much Fancier Than It Is.Chocolate truffles have a way of looking like something you bought from a tiny chocolate shop with very serious packaging.

But the center is wonderfully simple.

Dark chocolate, cream, butter.

Melt everything gently, stir until glossy, let the ganache get firm in the refrigerator, then scoop and roll.

That’s basically the entire situation.

I like making half of mine with cocoa powder for that classic dark chocolate finish and rolling the other half in coconut. The coconut version is a little sweeter and more textured, while the cocoa ones stay intense and deeply chocolatey.

If you want to stay in truffle territory but switch up the chocolate, try my White Chocolate Truffles with their creamy coconut coating. For another easy no-bake bite, these Raffaello Coconut Balls have a soft coconut center with an almond tucked inside.

When I’m putting together a full chocolate dessert table, I also like adding my Creamy Chocolate Pudding Cups for something spoonable and silky, plus mugs of Homemade Hot Chocolate when the weather calls for maximum chocolate.

What Are Chocolate Truffles?

Chocolate truffles are small chocolate confections traditionally built around a ganache center made from chocolate and cream.

King Arthur describes the basic version as chocolate and cream ganache that is chilled until firm enough to scoop and roll. King Arthur Chocolate Truffles.

Common Mistakes To Avoid

  • Using chocolate chips instead of good-quality chopped dark chocolate.
  • Heating the cream too much and burning it.
  • Not chopping the chocolate finely enough, which can make it melt unevenly.
  • Stirring too aggressively before the chocolate has softened.
  • Chilling the ganache for too little time, making it hard to roll.
  • Rolling the truffles with warm hands, which can make them melt quickly.
  • Skipping the cocoa powder, nuts, or coating until the truffles are fully shaped.

What To Serve With Dark Chocolate Truffles

Dark Chocolate Truffles are delicious served with hot coffee, espresso, mint tea, red berries, vanilla ice cream, or a glass of cold milk. They also pair well with shortbread cookies, whipped cream, caramel sauce, fresh strawberries, or a simple dessert board for holidays, parties, and homemade gifting.
