This Healthy Chocolate Brownie Recipe needs just three ingredients: ripe bananas, unsweetened cocoa powder, and peanut butter. Everything gets blended until thick and chocolatey, then chilled until firm enough to slice into soft, fudgy squares.

I make these when I want something chocolatey without turning on the oven. The ripe bananas add natural sweetness, the cocoa gives the bars a deep chocolate flavor, and the peanut butter creates that dense, rich texture that makes each bite feel surprisingly brownie-like.

These aren’t traditional baked brownies, so don’t expect a cakey crumb or crisp edges. They’re soft, fudgy, and best eaten straight from the fridge.

What Should the Brownie Mixture Look Like

Before chilling, the mixture should be thick, smooth, and creamy.

It shouldn’t pour like traditional brownie batter. You should need a spatula to spread it across the pan.

If your mixture looks unusually thin, your bananas may have been especially large or your peanut butter may have been very runny.

Once chilled, the brownies should hold their shape when lifted but remain soft and fudgy when you bite into them.

Remember that these are no-bake healthy brownies, so their texture will be different from brownies made with flour, eggs, and butter.

What to Serve With Healthy Brownies

These healthy brownies are rich, fudgy, and chocolatey, so I like serving them with something fresh or creamy to balance the cocoa and peanut butter.

Fresh berries are one of my favorite pairings. Strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries add a fresh, slightly tart contrast to the dense brownies. You can also turn them into a simple dessert plate with yogurt and berries, similar to this Mixed Berry and Yogurt Parfait from Food Network. Mixed Berry and Yogurt Parfait

For an even creamier pairing, serve a brownie square with plain Greek yogurt, fresh berries, and a small sprinkle of granola. This Vanilla Berry Yogurt Parfait from Food Network is another easy idea for combining yogurt and fresh fruit. Vanilla Berry Yogurt Parfait

You can also serve Healthy Brownies with:

  • Fresh strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries
  • Sliced banana
  • Plain or vanilla Greek yogurt
  • A spoonful of natural peanut butter
  • Cold milk
  • Hot coffee
  • Unsweetened tea

For an easy snack plate, I like serving one chilled brownie square with fresh berries and a spoonful of yogurt. The fresh fruit keeps the whole thing from feeling too rich.

FAQs

Do these taste like bananas?

They have a mild banana sweetness, but the cocoa and peanut butter take the lead—especially once chilled.

Can I bake this?

This version is designed to set in the fridge/freezer. Baking will change the texture and isn’t needed.

Why is my batter not smooth?

Your peanut butter may be very thick or your bananas weren’t ripe enough. Blend longer and scrape down the sides until fully creamy.

Can I use another nut/seed butter?

Yes—almond butter or sunflower seed butter works well in the same amount.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas with plenty of brown spots for the best natural sweetness and smoothest texture.
  • Natural peanut butter works best. Stir it thoroughly before measuring if the oil has separated.
  • Regular unsweetened cocoa powder or Dutch-process cocoa powder can be used.
  • Scrape down the blender or food processor once or twice so no dry cocoa remains around the edges.
  • These are no-bake brownies, so the texture is softer and denser than traditional baked brownies.
  • If the mixture seems particularly soft, chill the brownies longer or place them in the freezer until firm.
  • Line the pan with parchment paper and leave an overhang to make removing the brownies easier.
  • For cleaner slices, use a sharp knife and wipe the blade between cuts.
  • Keep the brownies refrigerated because they soften at warm room temperature.
  • Almond butter or sunflower seed butter can be substituted for the peanut butter in the same amount.
  • Optional additions include vanilla extract, mini chocolate chips, chopped walnuts, or a small pinch of salt.
